On On Tri and Malone Coaching are excited to bring our Triathlon Camp back to Hilton Head Island. We welcome athletes of all skill levels to the 2013 Hilton Head Island Triathlon Camp. This year's focus is on Form and Efficiency in the three disciplines – swim, bike, and run. The Tri Camp will include video analysis of your swim, bike, and run mechanics to assist our professional coaches in honing and developing your skills. It will also include real-time training in the three disciplines to offer our coaches the opportunity to teach and demonstrate proper techniques necessary to succeed in Triathlon (see full itinerary below). Itinerary

SATURDAY
Run & Swim : Location – Island Recreation Center (MAP)
Bike : Location – Beach City Health & Fitness (MAP)

  • 7:30am – Run Clinic ( Location – Island Recreation Center  – MAP )
    Video analysis of run mechanics, foot strike and gait
    Run workout with instruction on various run training purposes (easy-long, tempo, interval)
    Run Q&A
    What you need to bring -  run shoes, run gear
     
  • 10am – Nutritional Break
     
  • 10:30am – Swim Clinic
    Video taping and analysis of swim stroke, body position, and swim technique
    Swim workout with drills to hone form and technique in the water
    Swim Q&A
    What you need to bring – swim suit, goggles
     
  • 1pm Lunch Break
     
  • 2:30pm – Bike Clinic ( Location Beach City Health & Fitness – MAP – 39 Hospital Center Commons, Hilton Head, SC 29926)
    Video analysis of pedal stroke, body position, and bike set-up
    Trainer workout with drills designed to increase efficiency and power
    Bike Q&A
    What you need to bring - bike, bike trainer, cycle shoes

SUNDAY
Location – On On Tri (MAP)

  • 8:30am – Bike Training
    Real time riding – instruction on bike skills and handling, USA Triathlon rules on riding, drafting, etc …
    Bike workout – tempo ride to simulate race pace
    What you need to bring -  bike, helmet, bike equipment
     
  • 10am – Transitions
    T1 & T2 instruction and practice
     
  • 11am – Run Training
    Run workout – focus on form and efficiency – tempo run to simulate race pace
    What you need to bring – run shoes and gear

Meet the Coaches

Katie Malone
Owner / Founder Malone Coaching -

Michael Lane
Mike is a third generation competitive swimmer who has over 15 years of club and college coaching experience. Mike has worked with swimmers on almost every level of the sport, ranging from beginners to some of the best swimmers in the world. On the club level he has worked with multiple Olympians, World champions, NCAA champions, American Record Holders, Olympic Trial Finalists, Senior and Junior National champions. His age group swimmers have included multiple national top 16 athletes, age group champions, and New England record holders. On the college level he has worked with Olympians, NCAA Qualifiers, Ivy League team and individual champions and Big East Qualifiers. Mike is a multiple recipient of the American Swim Coaches Association Coach of the Year for New England Swimming and was selected as an assistant coach to coach the US National Team Distance Select Camp.

As a swimmer, Mike has over thirty years of competitive swimming experience. During that time he was a 16 time All-American and a 5 time national individual and relay champion in collegiate and masters swimming. In the summer of 2006 at the Fina Masters World Championships he took 3 individual top 5 places and 3 relay top three finishes including a World and American record breaking finish in the 200 medley relay. In recent years Mike started competing in triathlons and in 2009 and 2010 qualified for the Iron Man 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater Florida this past year placing in the top 30 in his age group and was a USAT All-American.

Mike is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth and  attended Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale FL. In 1999 he was inducted to the BCC Athletic Hall of Fame and in 2008 he was inducted to the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Athletic Hall of Fame. This past year he was inducted to the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame. He graduated from Martin High School in Arlington , TX .
